Invitation letter text:
We’re pleased to invite you to the 52nd Asilomar Microcomputer Workshop, to be held Wednesday – Friday, 6-8 May 2026 at the Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, California, on the Monterey Peninsula. Please join us!
Since our first workshop in 1975, AMW has offered a friendly, informal venue for exceptional technical minds to gather as peers. We limit registration to about 100 for the best workshop experience. Since COVID has not gone away–and some of us are in vulnerable groups–we will again be a hybrid event by streaming the live program for remote attendance. We will continue to prioritize safety at meetings and social gatherings by asking attendees to be fully vaccinated and boosted, and to test daily. It is estimated that “covid-19 has annually caused millions of visits to the doctor, around a million hospitalizations, and roughly 100,000 deaths as of late”.
We will meet in the Asilomar Conference Center’s Fred Farr Forum on Asilomar Avenue, opposite the Main Entrance. The Fred Farr meeting room opens directly onto a large patio for breaks. We have requested that the sleeping rooms be conveniently located in or near the Fred Farr complex. We will assign shared rooms, although single rooms may be requested for an additional charge.
A Zoom link for each day will be emailed to all registrants. All talks–both scheduled and on a topic of your choosing during our “RAT” Session–will be hybrid. You should get a Discord user ID to post comments and questions for the speakers, and you can follow any out-of-band discussion threads there.
We are continuing the original Workshop rule of “no wallflowers” as active participation by everybody is the essence of AMW. Whether you are scheduled as a session speaker, a member of a panel discussion, and/or speak during our RAT Session, we’d like to hear from you. Overt commercialism is discouraged. Newcomers—in person and remote—will be able to introduce themselves with a brief “elevator” speech to everyone.
There are potential sessions on drone technology, the downside of ubiquitous computing, and Intel’s meltdown. As our program takes shape, your responses to questions in the registration form always help us add topics of interest. Our website, www.AMW.org, provides additional info.
2026 Registration: in-person rates are for shared occupancy; single-room upgrade is an additional $350 as space allows:
- Early Bird from now until Monday, 2 March: $999 in-person; $199 remote.
- This deadline comes up fast, so register now!
- Regular rate from Tuesday, 3 March until Thursday, 2 April: $1,299 in-person; $249 remote.

Starting on this date, registrants will only be accepted as our facility space allows.
The fee covers everything except your travel: workshop registration, shared lodging, handouts, and all meals and refreshments. Once again, we have kept the fees as low as possible. Please let us know if the cost might keep you from attending, as a limited number of scholarships may be provided on a case-by-case basis. Even if you cannot attend, your tax-deductible donations can help sponsor breaks, scholarships, etc. Please contact registration@AMW.org if you have questions about pricing or donations.
